A Note about IJA Events

Because the IJA is represented in many different countries there is no typical IJA event. Each IJA member group will structure its events according to local conditions.

Some IJA groups focus on professional, commercially motivated displays and tournaments because in some parts of the world people can make a living out of jousting.

Some IJA groups focus on professionally scripted and acted displays where there may be no competitive focus. Often these displays may re-enact an actual historical event and the participants in these displays may portray an actual historical character.

Some IJA groups focus on a competitive tournament using a medieval tournament setting to add a period atmosphere to the event.

IJA events may be open to the public or held privately.
